November 6, 2017 Board Meeting Notes

Attendees: Jeff Berg, Mark Karney, Ray Klempka, Dan MacKenzie, Nancy Miller, John Olson, Wally Sunderland

The November Board meeting was called to order at 6:40 p.m.

Minutes. Nancy Miller distributed copies of the October Board Meeting, which were approved as written.

Treasurer’s Report. Ray Klempka stated the bank account reflected $2966.65 as of November 1, 2017.

Membership. Several new members joined the Club last month.

Judge Chair. The November Judge (Chris Grey) will be announced following the deadline for salon submissions.

Programs. Photographer and author Dale Schwie will discuss images of landscape photographer Herbert Wendell Gleason.

Outings. Wally Sunderland is working on an outing at the Transportation Museum. Other suggestions include Rice Park (St. Paul Winter Carnival), ice fishing tournament in Brainerd, Stillwater ice castle, snow sculptures at State Fairgrounds, Polar Plunge in Minnetonka (NY Day), pond hockey tournament on Lake Nokomis, Luminary Loppet on Lake of the Isles, and ice houses on various lakes.

Holiday Party Get-together. Holiday party will take place December 21 at Kathy Hara’s house. Details will be sent to members via email.

Mentor Program. January mentoring event will take place at 1:00pm on January 13th (2018) at the Edina Library on Grandview Square.

Communications. Jeff Berg suggested looking for another communication platform given Yahoo’s potential demise.

Digital Chair. Jeff Berg suggested moving the submission deadline from midnight to 8:00 pm, starting next month. Mark Karney will announce the change at the upcoming meeting.

Volunteers. A sign-up sheet for meeting refreshments was filled up at the last meeting. The Board seeks a replacement for Cynthia Fleury as Club historian, who has served in this role for many years.

Exhibits. The exhibit at AT&T runs through the end of November. Discussions are underway for exhibit space at the Ryan and Northrup King buildings. Consensus was that shows should be juried.

Spring Inter-club Salon Competition. Mark Karney will attend one planning meeting for the March event, and will communicate general guidelines and lead time to members in January
